Forms 1099 filed by a financial intermediary (e.g., QIs) must be filed electronically.

In order for the IRS to process the vast number of Form 1099s it receives the form must be submitted on a machine readable form. 1099 Forms downloaded from the IRS site do not meet this requirement, and in fact the 1099 Forms on the IRS site are samples for informational purposes only.
